The Loss of a Surf Legend…Andy Irons

3 Nov

Andy Irons unexpectedly passed away yesterday at 32.  My prayers are with his wife Lyndie and the rest of their family.  Andy will be greatly missed by many people and he will always be remembered as an incredible surfer.  We never know what tomorrow holds.  Every day on this earth is a gift from God.  He gave us life and his Word offers us comfort when we are faced with grief and loss.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:18

God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4

The Hope of Eternal Life
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:3-9

May God bless the Irons family.

    “We never know what tomorrow holds.”

    I think that this is very true and we are brought to such harsh realities by tragedies such as these. 😦
